    Description

Join us at "The Heart of Africa" | Leja Bulela's 33rd Annual Conference

    Event Dates: June 26–28, 2026

    Location: Columbus, Ohio

Commitment: Flexible (virtual + on-site options available)

Leja Bulela is seeking dedicated volunteers to support our 33rd Annual Conference, The Heart of Africa—a powerful three-day celebration of Congolese culture, community, and impact. This year, we honor Congo’s central role in Africa while raising essential funds for displaced refugees and the Kalala Muzeu Health Center.

We’re seeking passionate individuals who want to make a meaningful impact while gaining experience in nonprofit operations, event planning, fundraising, and cultural programming.

    Volunteer Roles Available

    1. Fundraising & Sponsorship Outreach Volunteers
      1. Help us secure partnerships/sponsors that fuel our mission. Responsibilities may include researching prospects, drafting outreach emails, assisting with follow-ups, and supporting donor stewardship. Training and templates provided.
    2. PR/Marketing & Ticket Sales Volunteers
      1. Support pre-event promotion by helping with social media content, community outreach, email marketing, and connecting with local organizations to build awareness and drive attendance.
    3. Event Logistics & On-Site Support Volunteers
      1. Assist with coordinating vendors, speakers, registration, room set-up, attendee flow, and general event operations. Volunteers local to Ohio are especially encouraged, but non-local volunteers are also welcome to assist with pre-event logistics.

We welcome volunteers with all levels of experience. Whether you can help in the months leading up to the event, on-site during the weekend, or both, your contribution will directly strengthen the Congolese community at home and abroad.

    Volunteer Benefits & Recognition

To show our gratitude for your time and talent, volunteers will receive:

    • A personalized certificate of service signed by Leja Bulela's leadership
    • Complimentary access to the conference and gala (+ Friday Culture Night)
    • A volunteer appreciation gift
    • Feature recognition on our website, newsletter, or social media
    • Volunteer hours verification for students/professionals
    • Priority consideration for future leadership roles within Leja Bulela

Most importantly, volunteers will help uplift communities in the Congo and strengthen the diaspora across the U.S. and beyond.
