    Description

VIRTUAL/REMOTE: American Red Cross - Disaster Duty Officer (Northern Valleys)

The Disaster Duty Officer is a crucial first point of contact for any local disaster that requires Red Cross support. This position receives reports via our Disaster Hotline from local officials, including police, fire, and emergency management as well as clients directly affected by a disaster. It the responsibility of the Disaster Duty Officer to ask the appropriate questions to decide how the Red Cross will respond. Interactions with clients may be highly charged, disjointed, and information may be vague or limited.

The Disaster Duty Officer serves as the 'coordinator’ of the local disaster response, coordinating the field team and any human or material resources. When calls are received, the Duty Officer will dispatch the information to the appropriate players, including leadership and the volunteer teams assigned to respond to the disaster. This is a position that requires attention to detail, good listening skills, and a desire to support the communities we serve. This position is responsible for the safety of the field teams, the sharing of important information across multiple platforms, and ensuring quick and timely responses to local disasters.

Disaster Duty Officers must be 18+ with a preference for 21+ given the sensitive nature of this work.

This position is entirely virtual. Shifts are on-call
