    Description

    SARC Volunteer On-Call Advocates provide information, referrals, and confidential emotional support to people who have been impacted by sexual violence via our 24-hour support line and/or at response locations, such as hospitals, health care clinics, colleges, high schools, shelters, and law enforcement agencies in Washington County.

    • This position is primarily remote, however some shifts require response to in-person accompaniment requests within the Portland metro area, primarily within Washington County within 40 minutes.
    • This position requires the volunteer to hold a non-mandated reporter status.

    Essential Functions

    • Use trauma informed, anti-oppressive, intersectional, and racial and social justice lenses to approach work with clients, colleagues, and community partners.
    • Support the 24-hour crisis response protocol by answering incoming calls and/or responding to in-person advocacy requests on a rotating, on-call basis.
    • Ensure immediate response to incoming support and/or information calls in a quiet and private workspace.
    • Provide trauma-informed and relevant emotional support, information, and referrals to individuals as appropriate.
    • Maintain strong professional and personal boundaries.
    • Participate in shift debriefs as needed or requested.
    • Attend monthly Advocate Team meetings.
    • Maintain entries in confidential electronic records database in accordance with agency policy.

    We are excited to announce our Fall 40-Hour Advocacy Training, starting September 3rd and going though graduation on October 13th. This training runs every Monday and Wednesday evenings in person from 6-9 pm, plus 2 Saturday afternoons, September 6th and October 11th. We plan to offer the training again in Spring, Summer and Fall in 2026.
