Horse Rescue - Barn Chores Volunteers Needed!

Save A Forgotten Equine (SAFE) is a horse rescue organization based near Seattle, Washington, dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and retraining horses suffering from neglect or abuse. Established in 2005, SAFE collaborates with Animal Control agencies in the King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties to protect and provide care for vulnerable horses. SAFE specializes in equine rehabilitation, offering professional veterinary care, nutrition, and training to help horses regain their health and prepare for long-term homes. Utilizing horsemanship practices inspired by Buck Brannaman and Joel Connor, SAFE ensures horses develop trust and confidence in their interactions with humans. SAFE remains committed to finding permanent, caring homes for their horses and conducts annual follow-up visits to ensure their safety and well-being.

    Instructions:

    Greetings from SAFE Horse Rescue!

My name is Laurie and I coordinate the volunteer community here at SAFE. Thank you so much for your interest! Firstly, I'm thrilled you are entertaining helping out at SAFE. Our volunteers are truly the heart of our community and we value any amount of time or contribution you are able to give towards this important cause. We are all excited to meet you! If you haven't already, please fill out an online profile here: https://www.volgistics.com/appform/1618969679

In addition to time with these incredible animals and a great community here at the farm, as a volunteer you will have access to ongoing personal development resources. These include Horsemanship Training, Horse Grooming 101, Joel Connor Clinics, Herd Health Seminars, Barn Assist Classes, among others. We can chat more about this in your 1 Hour Orientation and then your 1 Hour Training, both of which are required prior to your first day at the barn.

    • We will be moving to our new property in April 2026. The address is: 13113 200th St SE, Snohomish, WA 98296

Currently, we are looking for barn chore volunteers who can work a 3-hour shift once per week, on the same day each week. The morning shift is from 9-12, and the afternoon shift is from 4-7. Ideally you can commit to one shift per week for at least 3 months.  No horse experience is necessary and we will train you to do the job. These teams are really fun! We have some volunteers that have been helping out with barn chores for over 10 years! They love the physical activity, time spent with others, caring for the horses and the camaraderie.

After your initial few months hands-on at the SAFE barn, feel free to peruse our variety of team roles both remote and in person.

Your next step in volunteering with us would be to attend a Virtual Orientation 1: Welcome Session via Zoom. This orientation will be an introduction to SAFE and is a great opportunity to ask any questions.

    Schedule Orientation 1: Welcome HERE

After the Orientation 1 Session, you will need to attend an online Orientation 2: Training Session, and sign paperwork before your first day on the farm. Thank you again for your interest in SAFE and your willingness to offer your valued time to these incredible horses. Looking forward to meeting you!
