    Position Summary

    Hospice Volunteers provide supportive services to select hospice patients and their families as assigned by the Volunteer Coordinator. Volunteers offer companionship, emotional support, and practical assistance that enhances quality of life during the end-of-life journey.

    Volunteers are carefully matched and will only serve with designated hospice patients, not across all company service lines.

    Volunteer Service Areas:

    Volunteers may participate in one or more of the following areas:

    Patient Support – Provide companionship, read aloud, listen, engage in conversation, play music, or simply sit with patients.

    Bereavement Support – Assist with grief support mailings, follow-up calls, or memorial services (training provided).

    Caregiver Respite – Offer short-term companionship visits to allow caregivers time for errands or self-care.

    Light Housekeeping – Assist with small tasks such as organizing, light tidying, or laundry (non-medical).

    Pet Therapy – Provide certified pet therapy visits (if applicable and approved).

    Administrative/Office Support – Assist with filing, mailings, assembling packets, data entry, or special projects.

    Other – Special projects or event support as needed.

    Responsibilities

    Provide compassionate, respectful support to hospice patients and families.

    Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.

    Complete required volunteer orientation and training.

    Communicate regularly with the Volunteer Coordinator.

    Document volunteer hours and activities as required.

    Adhere to hospice policies and safety standards.

    Qualifications

    Compassionate, dependable, and emotionally mature.

    Comfortable supporting individuals at end-of-life.

    Ability to maintain confidentiality.

    Successful completion of background check and orientation training.

    Pet therapy volunteers must provide proof of certification (if applicable).
