    Role Summary

The Smile Outreach is looking for a bold and creative Volunteer Content Creator to help us bring our stories to life, amplify our impact, and connect more deeply with youth, women, and community leaders across Africa. Whether it’s scripting a short reel, designing a campaign post, or repackaging adolescent voices into powerful visuals—your work will fuel our digital advocacy and deepen public engagement with our mission.

This is a great opportunity for early-career storytellers, digital creatives, or communication students who want to gain experience in nonprofit storytelling, feminist media, and purpose-driven content strategy. We’re especially excited to work with young women eager to shape narratives for justice, equity, and youth empowerment.

    Key Responsibilities

    Visual Storytelling & Graphic Design

    • Design engaging and brand-aligned social media graphics, flyers, or campaign visuals using Canva or Adobe Suite.
    • Create digital assets for key initiatives like the Bold Spaces Flashcards, Hand-to-Mind Clubs, and The Period Dictionary.
    • Support in repurposing event content into carousels, infographics, or digital flyers.

    Video & Audio Content

    • Assist in editing short videos or reels for Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
    • Clip and caption event highlights, testimonies, or youth-led interviews for social impact storytelling.
    • Help produce audio snippets or audiograms for our Ubuntu Podcast and virtual events.

    Written Content & Campaign Copy

    • Draft captions, campaign copy, and micro-stories for social media and newsletters.
    • Rewrite or repackage longer blog content into shorter formats for wider engagement.
    • Assist in creating scripts or prompts for youth-led campaigns (e.g., Period Action Day, VAV25, GivingTuesday Africa).

    Content Calendar & Strategy Support

    • Collaborate on the planning and scheduling of monthly content calendars.
    • Research content trends relevant to feminist movements, youth engagement, or menstrual justice.
    • Track post engagement, suggest improvements, and co-create mini-campaigns with the Comms Team.

    Qualifications & Skills

    • Background or interest in media, communications, journalism, design, or social impact storytelling.
    • Proficiency in Canva (mandatory); basic familiarity with video editing tools like CapCut, InShot, or Adobe Premiere Rush is a plus.
    • Strong writing and copy-editing skills.
    • Passion for grassroots advocacy, youth storytelling, and feminist movement building.
    • Ability to work remotely and meet deadlines independently.
    • Experience in a nonprofit or volunteer-led team is a bonus—but not required.

    Core Competencies

    • Creative thinker with a strong eye for design and detail.
    • Alignment with The Smile Outreach’s mission, values, and intersectional feminist ethos.
    • Self-motivated and collaborative team player.
    • Culturally sensitive, inclusive, and committed to storytelling for impact.

    Disclaimer

This is a volunteer role with a minimum commitment of 5–10 hours per week for a 12-month period.

Volunteers in this position may be considered for a part-time paid opportunity based on performance and funding availability.

Women are especially encouraged to apply, as we are a 90% women-led team creating pathways for women and girls across Africa.

    What We Offer

    • A vibrant and flexible creative environment with meaningful causes to amplify.
    • Portfolio-worthy experience contributing to pan-African campaigns and advocacy work.
    • Supportive mentorship and digital skill-building opportunities.
    • Professional references and public recognition for top-performing volunteers.
    • The opportunity to shape narratives that change minds, shift policies, and inspire action.
