Come make a difference with us!
Doorways is an Arlington-based non-profit agency helping individuals and families create pathways out of domestic violence, sexual assault, and homelessness leading to safe, stable and empowered lives. We provide trauma-informed, holistic services to survivors in the community including emergency housing, hospital accompaniment, court advocacy, counseling, case management, a 24/7 hotline, prevention workshops, and more.
We are seeking individuals to act as Shelter Coverage/Hotline Volunteers for 8 hours per month (two 4-hour shifts) in our emergency housing shelter for domestic violence survivors. Shelter Coverage Volunteers respond to hotline calls, ensure the smooth operation of the shelter and assist in meeting the needs of domestic violence survivors and their children residing at the shelter. Typical shifts are Saturdays and Sundays 10am-2pm & 2pm-6pm, with weekday daytime (between 7am-6pm) and evening shifts (6-10pm) also needed.
Please note that volunteers must complete 40 hours of training in person and submit background checks in order to work directly with clients. Training classes are hosted on weeknights through three cohorts per year: Fall (Sep-Nov), Winter (Jan-March), and Spring (April-June). Entrance into cohort is first come first serve. A one year commitment of active volunteering is required.
