A Free Bird is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in New York City. We empower children diagnosed with cancer by providing access to artistic outlets that support emotional healing and self-expression. Our programs give young artists the chance to explore their creativity through music, dance, visual arts, writing, acting, and more—turning passion into power at every stage of their journey.

    Role Overview

    • Participate in agile development processes including sprint planning, debugging, testing, and deployment
    • Maintain and manage GitHub repositories and contribute to technical documentation
    • Support the creation of QA processes, testing protocols, and verification plans for deployment
    • Contribute to both front-end and/or back-end development, based on specialization

    What We’re Looking For

    • 1–2+ years of hands-on experience in software or web development (professional, educational, or open source)
    • Strong knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and/or Python
    • Familiarity with frameworks and tools such as React, Node.js, Django, or Flask (a plus)
    • Understanding of databases, RESTful APIs, and RDBMS
    • Proficiency with Git, GitHub, and version control workflows
    • Exposure to modern development approaches including MVP, MVC, Agile, TDD
    • Experience working asynchronously with remote or distributed teams
    • Strong attention to detail and willingness to document code, processes, and system architecture
    • Specialization in front-end, back-end, or full-stack development welcome

    Bonus Skills (Preferred, Not Required)

    • Experience with Salesforce or AWS environments
    • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and cloud deployment workflows
    • Contributions to open-source or nonprofit projects
