    Volunteer Opportunity: Grants Manager

    Organization: Akshay’s Light Foundation

    Location: Remote

Type: Volunteer Position (Part-time, flexible hours)

    About Us:

Akshay’s Light Foundation is a non-profit organization inspired by the memory of Akshay, dedicated to illuminating lives through education, mental health support, and community empowerment. We focus on raising funds for local causes in our community such as mental health, while also extending our impact internationally by partnering with charities in South America, particularly in Peru and Bolivia. Our mission is to create lasting change by supporting underserved populations, fostering mental well-being, and building stronger communities. Learn more at akshayslight.org.

    Position Overview:

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Grants Manager to join our team as a volunteer. In this role, you will play a key part in securing funding to support our local initiatives and international partnerships. Your efforts will help us expand our programs, from community-based mental health workshops and educational resources locally to aiding charities in Peru and Bolivia focused on similar causes. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference while gaining valuable experience in non-profit fundraising.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Research and identify grant opportunities from foundations, government agencies, corporations, and other donors that align with our focus on local community empowerment and South American partnerships.
    • Prepare and submit compelling grant proposals, including budgets, narratives, and supporting documents.
    • Manage the grant application process, including tracking deadlines, reporting requirements, and follow-ups.
    • Collaborate with our team to gather data and stories that highlight the impact of our work in local areas and regions like Peru and Bolivia.
    • Build and maintain relationships with funders and partner organizations to sustain long-term funding streams.
    • Assist in developing fundraising strategies to diversify our revenue sources beyond grants, such as donor campaigns or events.
    • Monitor grant compliance and prepare progress reports for awarded funds.

    Qualifications:

    • Proven experience in grant writing and management, preferably in the non-profit sector (2+ years ideal, but enthusiasm and relevant skills welcome).
    • Strong research, writing, and organizational skills with attention to detail.
    • Knowledge of fundraising best practices and familiarity with grant databases (e.g., Foundation Directory Online, Grants.gov).
    • Passion for causes related to education, mental health, and community development, with an interest in international work in South America.
    • Ability to work independently in a remote setting, with excellent communication skills.
    • Proficiency in tools like Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or grant management software.
    • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are a plus, given our work in Peru and Bolivia.

    What We Offer:

    • The chance to contribute to impactful projects that change lives locally and abroad.
    • Flexible scheduling to fit your availability (approximately 10-15 hours per week).
    • Opportunities for professional development, networking, and building your resume in non-profit management.
    • A supportive team environment with recognition for your contributions.
    • Letters of recommendation and references upon successful completion.

    How to Apply:

If you’re excited about helping us secure funding to light up more lives, please send your resume, a cover letter explaining your interest in this role, and 1-2 samples of past grant proposals (if available). We encourage applications from diverse backgrounds and will review them on a rolling basis.

Join us in illuminating hope—one grant at a time!
