    Commitment Details:
    2–5 hrs/week (or as much time as you'd like to give). Bi-weekly virtual meetings. Flexible scheduling; tasks can be done remotely. Commitment runs through Walk Day. Event day participation encouraged but not required.

    Description

    Join the Out of the Darkness Walks Leadership Team

    The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is looking for passionate, organized, and community-minded volunteers to join our Walk Planning Committee for the 2026 Out of the Darkness Community Walks. These Walks are powerful community events that bring together survivors, families, friends, and supporters to raise awareness, fund lifesaving suicide prevention programs, and honor the lives of those we’ve lost.

    We are currently building our planning team and are seeking volunteers who want to make a real impact behind the scenes.

    Volunteer Roles Needed

    Committee members can support one or more areas, including:

    • Sponsorship & Community Outreach
    • Logistics & Event Planning
    • Volunteer Recruitment
    • Marketing & Social Media Promotion
    • Team/Walker Engagement
    • Day-of Coordination Support
    • In-kind Donations & Vendor Outreach

    We’re looking for volunteers who are:

    • Passionate about mental health and suicide prevention
    • Team-oriented and comfortable collaborating with others
    • Organized, dependable, and willing to take initiative
    • Interested in event planning, community outreach, marketing, sponsorship, or volunteer coordination
    • Ready to contribute ideas and help turn plans into action

    No prior experience is needed, just a willingness to help, a positive attitude, and a commitment to making a difference.
