    Description

    Become A Reading Coach Today!

test results show that 60 percent of Philadelphia’s 4th graders are not proficient in reading. Let’s change that together. Philly Reading Coaches is helping students in grades K-3 become better, motivated, and confident readers. Committed volunteers - who can be as young as 16 - will spend a minimum of one hour once a week reading with a student, helping them gain confidence in their reading abilities and discover the love of reading.

    Tasks include:

    • Greeting your student and helping them choose books that match their interests and reading level
      • Reading aloud, listening as they read, and offering gentle support as needed
      • Helping your student with fun literacy worksheets, activities, and games to foster learning and a love of reading
      • Completing quick reading logs together at the end of each session

Reading Coaches offer encouragement, guidance, and a consistent presence to help children grow as readers and find excitement in every page. This program will be starting in October 2025, PRC will start the new school year off in select Community School OST programs, and we need caring, committed volunteers like you!
