    Description

    The Shaker Historical Society is seeking 1-2 enthusiastic and dependable volunteers to serve as K-12 Field Trip Educators. In this role, you will work closely with our Education & Outreach Manager to lead engaging, inquiry-based field trip activities for student groups ranging from kindergarten through 12th grade. Volunteers help bring history, culture, and our museum's mission to life by guiding groups of students, facilitating hands-on activities, and encouraging curiosity and discovery.

    Responsibilities:

    • Assist with the delivery of inquiry-based tours, programs, and activities for K-12 students
    • Help manage group movement and behavior to ensure a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable learning environment
    • Support and reinforce educational themes as directed by the Education & Outreach Manager
    • Set up and clean up materials for hands-on activities and demonstrations
    • Answer students' questions and engage them in age-appropriate conversation about the museum and its exhibits and the city’s history
    • Represent the Shaker Historical Society with professionalism, enthusiasm, and warmth to students, teachers, and chaperones

    Qualifications:

    • Interest in education, history, museums, and/or working with children and teens
    • Comfortable speaking in front of groups and interacting with students of varying ages
    • Ability to follow directions and collaborate with staff and fellow volunteers
    • Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude
    • Must pass a background check (required for all volunteers)
    • Must have reliable transportation
    • Must be able to ascend/descend stairs to access second floor galleries
    • Prior youth engagement or teaching experience preferred
