Overview
The STEM Educator volunteer role supports hands-on learning experiences that inspire curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving in students from elementary through high school. Volunteers lead or assist in teaching engineering and STEM-based workshops designed to make science, technology, engineering, and math engaging and accessible for all learners.
Responsibilities
- Teach or assist in delivering STEM lessons and activities to students in grades K–12
- Facilitate interactive, project-based learning experiences that encourage exploration and teamwork
- Adapt teaching methods to suit different age groups and learning styles
- Support classroom management and ensure a safe, inclusive learning environment
- Collaborate with other volunteers and staff to prepare materials and set up activities
- Serve as a positive role model, promoting curiosity and confidence in STEM subjects
Qualifications
- Passion for STEM education and working with children
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for hands-on learning
- Prior teaching or mentoring experience (preferred but not required)
- Background in STEM fields or related studies (engineering, science, technology, or math)
Time Commitment
- Flexible scheduling; opportunities available during school hours, after-school programs, and weekend workshops
- Minimum commitment of 2–4 hours per month recommended
Training and Support
- Orientation and training provided on curriculum, classroom management, and safety procedures
- Ongoing support from program coordinators and lead educators
