Volunteer Accounting Specialist – Grounded Boots Relief

The Role

We’re seeking a Volunteer Accounting Specialist who can help us keep our books as sharp as our operations in the field. This role ensures transparency, compliance, and accuracy in our finances so we can continue to earn the trust of donors, partners, and emergency managers. You’ll work closely with leadership to keep us audit-ready and financially steady.

Responsibilities

• Manage bookkeeping using QuickBooks or similar software
• Track income and expenses, including grants, sponsorships, and donations
• Prepare monthly financial reports for the board of directors
• Assist with nonprofit compliance, including 990 filings and donor acknowledgments
• Advise on budgeting, internal controls, and best practices for nonprofit accounting
• Support development of financial systems that scale as we grow

What We’re Looking For

• Experience with nonprofit accounting or bookkeeping
• Familiarity with QuickBooks, Wave, or similar platforms
• Understanding of IRS and state compliance for 501(c)(3) organizations
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
• Ability to explain financial data clearly to non-financial team members
• CPA or nonprofit accounting background a plus, but not required
