    We ask volunteers to commit to 10 hours per month at a minimum. This helps making the best impact on our dogs at the facility.

    Help Abandoned and Homeless dogs heal, grow and find permanent loving homes.

    🧭 Volunteer Task Levels

    Use these as your growth roadmap — you can move up as your comfort, training, and experience increase.

    Skill-Based Tasks (Non-dog contact)

    • Facility & equipment repair or maintenance
    • Administrative or clerical support

    Level I – Foundational (Start Here)

    • Dog walking & socialization
    • Cleaning facilities
    • Groundskeeping & light maintenance
    • Bathing & grooming
    • Feeding & watering
    • Running errands

    Level II – Intermediate

    • Basic training
    • Transporting dogs
    • Handling dogs at adoption events
    • Swimming or hiking with dogs
    • Answering phones
    • Updating dog information
    • Sending thank-you cards to donors

    🦴 Level III – Advanced

    • Evaluating dog behavior
    • Walking dogs in public spaces
    • Posting updates on social media

    🧩 Level IV – Administrative & Adoption Support

    • Responding to emails
    • Screening adoption applications
    • Home & reference checks
    • Post-adoption follow-ups
    • General puppy care
    • Temporary fostering

    💉 Level V – Veterinary & Rehabilitation

    • (Additional training required)
    • Wound & post-surgical care
    • Worming, vaccinating, microchipping
    • Rehabilitative therapy
    • Grant writing

    How to Volunteer for This Opportunity

    Please make an appointment before coming. Our access hours change depending upon the free ranging and walking schedules.

    olunteer Protocols & Safety​

    Dress Code

      • Closed-toe shoes required
      • Weather-appropriate clothing
      • Long pants are recommended for hiking
      • Expect dirt, fur, and fun

    Entry & Access

      • Age 8+ with supervision
      • Sign in/out required
      • Visits by appointment
      • Vaccination guidelines apply

    Property Conduct

      • Report all injuries or incidents
      • Park in designated areas
      • No rough play
      • No training dogs unless directed
      • Notify staff of medical issues

    Feeding & Treats

      • Only PRH-approved food/treats
      • Supervised treat use
      • No outside snacks

    Dog Walking

      • Walk-only trails
      • Under-14s must walk with adults
      • Use PRH leashes/collars
      • Clean up required

    Kennels & Gates

      • Always latch gates
      • Ask before entering kennels
      • Approach calmly
      • Return dogs correctly

    Volunteer Agreement​​

      • By volunteering, you acknowledge the risks, agree to follow PRH policies, and commit to humane treatment of dogs and to positive representation of our organization.
