    Description

Theatrical Lighting Designer for Winter/Spring 2026 Season (Jan-May)

Do you have experience lighting a play? Want to test your skills in the only arena black-box theatre in the nation?

We are looking for someone with practical experience who has or is getting an education in technical theatre. They will work closely with one of our current designer(s) for training purposes and begin design on our shows as their schedule allows.

The hours are flexible during the actual design phase, but become more structured as we get closer to performance. Designers work approximately 50-75 hours per show, occurring over the course of 6 weeks (for the first show of the season) and up to 3 months (for the last show of the season). It's better if you're a proficient programmer, because our shows perform back-to-back, so there's only about a week or two where you'll be able to play in the space.

    Some information about the space:

Our board is an ETC Element. Most of the lights are conventional Source 4s, in addition to 12 SeaChanger units, 4 moving lights, and roughly 36 fresnels in inventory.

The main space is an approximately 45' diameter circle that is typically set up either in the round or with a modified thrust.

Grid height is 20’ feet and is accessible via perimeter catwalks or a genie lift and DMX is distributed via quasi-permanent addressable dimmer bars throughout the grid.

As we are a community theatre, our foundation offers a $500 stipend for this role.
