Elementary After School Volunteering

The Sun Valley Youth Center is a nonprofit youth center located in Denver. We offer a variety of programs to the children of the Sun Valley neighborhood to aid in their social, emotional, and physical development. We aim to holistically meet the needs of our kids while providing a safe and nurturing environment for them to learn and grow.

Description of Opportunity

If you enjoy working with kids, we are looking for volunteers to assist with programming! After school, we serve snack to the kids and encourage them to move whether that is by playing on the playground, playing basketball, football, four-square, etc. After that, we offer a variety of programs, dinner, and time for tutoring/homework help. Mission & Purpose:

Mission of SVYC: Empowering youth, family, and community to reach their greatest potential.

Responsibilities & Specific Duties:

• Check-in with Volunteer Coordinator often
• Assist with program preparation
• Assist with program(gathering supplies, keeping children focused on activity, etc.)
• Show up on time to sessions
• Complete surveys
• Serve as a role model for youth
• Build positive relationship with youth through connection
• Help youth set/accomplish goals

Qualifications:

• Dependable, consistent, patient, and communicative
• Willing to respect and maintain the confidentiality of SVYC's youth
• Willing to work with youth of different backgrounds, cultures, etc
• Willing to follow all program policies and procedure
• Able to pass a background check

Time Commitment:

2 hrs/week

Training & Support Provided:

Attend initial volunteer training with Volunteer Coordinator.

Supervision & Support will be from the Volunteer Coordinator and Elementary Program Director. Other staff in the program will step in as needed.
