    Description

Nebraska Wildlife Rehab Wildlife Care Volunteer (Bird, Mammal, or Herptile)

These volunteers are trained to care for wildlife at our Wildlife Center.

We are currently only looking for volunteers that are willing to make a weekly commitment and go through our training process which includes: orientation, class training, and one-on-one training sessions.

Our current COVID-19 policy requires all volunteers working around the animals (including transporters) to be COVID vaccinated with a vaccine/booster that has been received within the last 12 months. We have this policy due to certain species of wild animals we get in, like bobcats & mustelids, that can contract and die from COVID-19.

Bird, Herptile, and Mammal Nursery Volunteers are expected to work a minimum of one 3 or 4 hour shift per week from March through October, and a minimum of one 3 or 4 hour shift per month November through February.

    • Herptile volunteers are asked to work 1 pre-scheduled shift per week, year-round.

All new volunteers are required to go through an in-person on-site Orientation before they qualify for the specific role trainings (i.e. Mammal Nursery Training, Herptile Room Training, Cleaning Specialist Training).

Certain volunteer roles may have one or multiple training prerequisites. For example, if a new volunteer wanted to attend a Mammal Nursery Training Class, they may need to attend an Orientation, along with a Cleaning & Diet Prep Training + have at least 1 shift's worth of experience in both Cleaning and Diet Prep.

Volunteer Orientations, and Cleaning & Diet Prep Training Classes are held once per month year-round.

    • Bird, Herptile, and Mammal Nursery Training Classes are only held September through March.*
