    Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

    United Way of Pasco County – VITA Program Volunteer Opportunities

    United Way of Pasco County is seeking dedicated and organized volunteers to serve as Greeters, Quality Reviewers, Site Coordinators, and Tax Preparers for the upcoming tax season.

    The VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program provides free, IRS-certified tax preparation to low- and moderate-income households in our community.

    Training is available online, and no prior tax experience is required.

    We have volunteer opportunities available in Wesley Chapel, Dade City, Zephyrhills, Land O’ Lakes, New Port Richey, and Holiday.

    Mileage reimbursement is provided for all volunteers.

    Volunteer Roles Available

    Tax Preparers

    Prepare basic tax returns using IRS-certified online training.

    Quality Reviewers

    Review completed returns for accuracy and IRS compliance.

    Greeters

    Welcome clients, assist with intake forms, and help keep the site organized.

    Site Coordinators

    Lead site operations, support volunteers, and ensure quality standards are met.

    This is a seasonal position with part-time hours, typically 1–3 days per week.

    Responsibilities

    (Varies slightly by role)

    • Provide friendly, professional service to clients
    • Maintain confidentiality and IRS/United Way quality standards
    • Assist with intake, scheduling, and client flow
    • Support a smooth and organized site environment
    • Use IRS-provided online training and TaxSlayer software
    • Work collaboratively with United Way staff and fellow volunteers

    Requirements

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Detail-oriented and able to follow IRS guidelines
    • Basic computer skills (tax experience helpful but not required)
    • Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to weekly shifts during tax season
    • Must complete IRS certification (Basic or higher; Site Coordinators must complete Advanced)

    Mileage reimbursement is provided for all volunteers.
