    Description

    Aquarium horticulture volunteer

    Horticulture volunteers assist with the routine maintenance of the Exhibit's Red Mangrove trees and seagrass collections. Duties include but are not limited to pruning, checking for and manually removing mangrove tree parasites and spraying mangrove leaves with saltwater to combat parasites. If interested, volunteer can take the lead on upgrading the Mangrove Exhibit's automated rainmaker system. Additional tasks include trimming seagrass in the Exhibit's seagrass model ecosystem exhibit and using a net to remove dead seagrass blades, epiphytes and detritus.

    Requirements: minimum age is 16; ability to stand for extended periods and climb short ladders; be tolerant of saltwater; be detail oriented; and pass a background check, which includes being fingerprinted at no cost.
