    Job: Operations Manager

    Location: Bushwick, Brooklyn, NY. On-site with some remote work

    Schedule: 20-30 hours per week. Partly structured, partly flexible. 4-5 days a week. Mostly afternoons / early evenings. Cover bartending shifts also available

    Starr Bar is a venue in Bushwick, Brooklyn that prioritizes events by and for social justice movements. We host everything from live music to DJ dance parties and everything in between. This job provides an opportunity to help shape the growth, culture and success of a vibrant Brooklyn venue that prioritizes events by and for social justice movements in NYC!

    We are seeking an organized, hands-on Operations Manager to oversee day-to-day operations. You are responsible for the countless details that keep a busy bar operating successfully—from inventory and vendor coordination to maintenance, cash handling, compliance, and event support. You’ll work in a team with the Managing Owner, Head Bartender and Sound Technician.

    We’re looking for someone who notices what others miss, anticipates problems before they happen, and can confidently make decisions in real time.

    The ideal candidate has:

    • Some bartending and staff management experience
    • Strong familiarity with bar equipment and systems
    • Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously
    • Attention to detail and good follow through ethics
    • Joy in working with others and incredible communication skills
    • Familiarity with social justice movements in NYC
    • NYC Food Handlers certificate (mandatory)
    • People of color, women, LGBTQ strongly encouraged
    • Familiarity with social justice movements.

    Responsibilities:

    • Oversee daily operations, organization, and maintenance
    • Monitor and coordinate repairs for equipment, refrigeration, draft systems, and facilities
    • Count drawers, prepare deposits, manage petty cash, and track discrepancies
    • Support live events, and help staff troubleshoot issues during service even if remotely
    • Train and onboard staff on equipment, reinforce procedures, and communicate updates
    • Ensure compliance with NYC health, safety, and licensing requirements

    Qualifications:

    • 2+ years of bar, restaurant, or hospitality management experience
    • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
    • Experience with inventory management, ordering, and cash handling
    • Knowledge of NYC health and safety regulations
    • Ability to work some nights or weekends, and lift up to 50 pounds
    • Food Handler's Certificate is a must

    Time commitment and compensation:

    • 20-30 hours per week plus cover bar shifts
    • Compensation commensurate with experience
    • Potential to earn equity in the bar after 3 years of full time employment
