About the Organization
Seed the Vote (STV) is a project of Center for Empowered Politics and Everyday People PAC. We are a grassroots, social justice organization mobilizing volunteers to defeat right wing politics by supporting the electoral work of grassroots organizations in swing states building long term power of working class communities and communities of color.
Seed the Vote organizes and provides resources, including volunteer capacity, to support community organizations and labor unions with direct voter contact as well as other campaign needs. In 2020, Seed the Vote mobilized nearly 9,000 volunteers, including over 1,250 in-person canvassers, to support our partners in key swing states to defeat Trump and flip the Senate. In 2022, Seed the Vote mobilized volunteers to door knocking and phone banking in six key states to help defy the odds in the midterms and win major victories in the senate and house. In 2024, Seed the Vote mobilized over 5,000 volunteers to doorknock in 6 states.
Position Overview
The STV Technology Specialist will be a crucial team member during the peak of our election cycle operations. Reporting directly to the Technology Lead, this short-term role focuses on executing immediate data and system needs, managing high-volume tech requests, and keeping our technical infrastructure running smoothly during our fall sprint.
The ideal candidate is passionate about the purpose of the work, and a nimble, hands-on technician who thrives in fast-paced environments. They will build lightweight data solutions, train staff and volunteers, and maintain strict data security practices. Because of the nature of electoral work, this role requires flexible hours—including some evenings and weekends—to match the cadence of peak campaign operations in the field.
Responsibilities

Technical Execution & Implementation
- Build and maintain lightweight systems to ensure high usability for staff and accurate data flow.
- Troubleshoot system integrations and maintain uptime of essential staff tools.
- Enforce organization-wide best practices on data security, access permissions, and system reliability.
Staff & Volunteer Training and Support
- Train, onboard, and provide daily technical support to staff and volunteers on digital infrastructure.
- Assist the Technology Lead in managing, delegating tasks to, and coordinating with technical volunteers and interns.
Data Management and Reporting
- Depending on real-time campaign needs, directly support field, organizing, and operations teams with data management, data analysis, reporting dashboards, list pulls, turf cutting, etc.
Program Participation
- Recruit people to volunteer with Seed the Vote, particularly to doorknock in key swing districts.
- Be willing and available to support varying needs across the organization as we get into the peak election season.
Required Qualifications
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to quickly prioritize, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues under tight deadlines.
- Proficiency with JavaScript or similar coding language for writing simple scripts, automations, or handling API integrations.
- Strong familiarity with security best practices and data privacy standards.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience training non-technical users.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, during the high-volume fall election season.
- Commitment to progressive grassroots values and electoral organizing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in campaign, advocacy, or nonprofit technology.
- Experience working with elections / political campaigns.
- Experience building and supporting custom applications in Airtable.
- Experience with Solidarity Tech or comparable relational organizing platforms (texting, dialers, CRMs).
- Experience supporting field data infrastructure (turf cutting, voter targeting, campaign metrics) using tools such as VAN / MiniVAN, PDI, or other electoral software.
- Experience managing volunteers.
Work Environment / Physical Demands
- Able to work on a computer, including sitting at a desk, for extended periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Manual dexterity to operate a keyboard and other equipment
- Able to see or read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids.
- Able to speak clearly and in audible tones on the phone and in person and be understood by others.
- Able to hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone.
- Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Employment Terms
- This position may be remote or a remote/in office hybrid. STV’s office is based in Oakland, but the employee can live anywhere.
- This is a temporary (mid-August - early or mid November) part time position starting at 20 hours per week with irregular work hours, including evenings and weekends, with the possibility to go up to 40 hours per week starting mid September during the high-volume fall election season. This position is non-exempt with an hourly pay range of $33.65/hour - $38.46/hour, depending on experience.
