    Description

    About Millie

Millie is reimagining the hospital-based midwifery model. We aim to provide complete, inclusive, and empowering care. Our dream is to achieve better maternal health outcomes by providing excellent midwifery and doula care with OB-GYN physician collaboration.

Our in-person clinics in Berkeley, CA and San Jose, CA provide a warm and welcoming environment for holistic perinatal care. At Millie, support extends beyond the clinic through app-based education, remote monitoring, and virtual care spanning specialties. We currently partner with hospitals in the Bay Area for our labor and delivery services — and all services are covered by major insurance plans. Our patient population is diverse and we hope to build a clinical team that represents the patients we serve.

At Millie, we are committed to health equity and providing culturally competent care — as well as prioritizing, affirming, and celebrating diversity within our team, clinicians, and patients. We strongly encourage BIPOC and LGBTQ+ individuals, veterans, and people with disabilities to apply.

Our clinic and care team are successful when all birthing parents, regardless of background:

    1. Feel valued, respected, and heard.
    2. Feel confident and supported in their decisions.
    3. Can easily access trusted and skilled support.
    4. Experience a healthier pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey.

This includes (but is not limited to) reduced rates of preterm births, NICU stays, C-sections, earlier detection of complications, and a better experience.

    Our approach to care

Millie is a midwife-led, evidence-based practice. Our patients deliver in a hospital setting, and our care follows current clinical evidence and shared algorithms of care developed with our midwives and OB-GYN collaborators. We prioritize birth that unfolds with as little intervention as possible and we turn to interventions when the evidence shows they’re the safest choice for a parent and baby. Following the evidence — wherever it leads — is what keeps our patients safe.

Millie Guides are an integral part of this team. The most effective Guides honor each patient’s autonomy and preferences while reinforcing the same evidence-based guidance our clinicians provide. When a patient’s questions or wishes fall outside our care model, Guides help them understand the evidence and bring those conversations back to the clinical team — rather than steering patients in a different direction.

This is the Millie approach, and it isn’t for everyone. We’re looking for Guides who are genuinely excited by collaborative, evidence-based, hospital-based care.

    About the role

We’re looking for a part-time Millie Guide to provide virtual education, guidance, and support to patients throughout pregnancy. Millie Guides are a unique part of our care model, helping families feel informed, supported, and connected between clinical visits.

As a Millie Guide, you’ll often build relationships with patients over the course of their pregnancy — not just during a single visit. You’ll educate, support, and empower families in close partnership with the midwives, OB-GYNs, and nurses who direct their clinical care. Your role complements and reinforces the guidance of the clinical team, ensuring patients hear a consistent, evidence-based message from everyone supporting them.

Millie Guides help patients prepare for birth, postpartum recovery, infant feeding, and newborn care through a combination of virtual education, ongoing support, and app-based resources.

Our patients also have access to the Millie app, which includes a robust perinatal curriculum to accompany your clinical care. Visit www.millieclinic.com to learn more about our care model.

    Your responsibilities

    • Lead group sessions and individualized prenatal education visits
    • Document patient interactions accurately and efficiently
    • Respond to patient questions through Millie’s messaging platform.
    • Connect patients with appropriate resources and collaborate with clinicians when concerns require escalation.
    • Instruct and facilitate prenatal classes that cover a wide range of topics including childbirth preparation, lactation, and newborn care.
    • Host regular community gatherings for our patients and local families
    • Contribute ideas that improve the Millie Guide program, patient education, and overall patient experience.
    • Help patients feel prepared, confident, and supported throughout pregnancy.

    About you

You love helping people learn. Whether you’re leading a group, answering a patient’s question, or helping someone prepare for birth, you enjoy making complex information feel approachable, practical, and empowering. This is a relationship-based role. You’ll often work with patients over many months, becoming a trusted part of their pregnancy journey.

    • Significant experience supporting families throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
      • Experience supporting families in hospital birth settings is strongly preferred
    • Extensive experience working directly with clinical care providers, including CNMs, RNs and OB-GYNs.
    • Excellent educator and communicator who enjoys teaching both groups and individuals.
    • Commitment to health equity, racial justice, and reproductive justice, and to supporting bodily autonomy and self-determination through informed, evidence-based decision-making.
    • Commitment to providing unbiased, patient-centered care that is grounded in current clinical evidence.
    • Comfort working within a midwife-led, hospital-based model that supports low-intervention birth where appropriate and evidence-based intervention — such as induction — when clinically indicated.
    • Eager to join a startup team that is collaborative and supportive of one another’s needs as we navigate a growing practice that is continuously evolving.
    • Located in Bay Area, CA (Preferred but not required)

Is this the right fit for you?

You’ll thrive as a Millie Guide if you:

    • Believe deeply in patient empowerment and in evidence-based care — and see no contradiction between the two.
    • Are energized by working as part of an interdisciplinary team and deferring to clinical leadership on medical decisions.
    • Adapt your guidance as the evidence evolves.

This role may not be the right fit if you:

    • Prefer to practice independently or set your own care philosophy with patients.
    • Are uncomfortable supporting hospital birth or following the clinical team’s evidence-based recommendations.

    Qualifications

    • Completion of doula training or equivalent experience in perinatal education
      • Doula training strongly preferred
    • Skills/training in the following areas are a plus: bilingual, motivational interviewing, additional lactation certifications or training, prenatal nutrition training
    • Experience working with a diverse population (racially, socioeconomically, educationally, BIPOC, LGBTQ, and individuals/families who have differences in their approach and philosophies to their care.

    What we offer

    • A seat on a collaborative, mission-driven team that’s building a new standard for hospital-based maternity care — one that integrates doula support into an evidence-based clinical model, not alongside it.
    • Competitive salary
    • Innovative and patient-centered model of care

This is an opportunity to raise the bar for maternity care, shape a growing midwifery practice, and work with a team of inspiring and committed people. If you are passionate about improving reproductive health, come join us!
