Portuguese/English Abortion Counselor

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Position: Portuguese/English Abortion Counselor
• Location: Remote located in Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Colombia and Peru. LATAM region
• Start Date: Expected start in April/May 2026
• Contract Term: Until 31st December 2026, renewable.
• Compensation and Benefits: US$1,000 per month (includes weekend availability) with additional incentives for weekend coverage, and benefits in line with WFD policy, including paid leave days, sick leave days, national holidays, and medical allowance.

Women First Digital (WFD) is a fully online femtech organization that meets reproductive needs through safe, accessible, and user-centered digital initiatives that connect users to abortion care, contraception, and provider education. We reach millions of people annually with the accurate information, counseling, and referrals they need to make informed health decisions.

WFD operates the following three platforms:

safe2choose.org – A Global Hub for Abortion Seekers

safe2choose helps people find accurate, stigma-free guidance on abortion pills and services. It provides a range of digital tools, including country-specific legal, medical, and logistic information, testimonials and pregnancy checkers. safe2choose provides hybrid counselling, combining an AI-driven chatbot (Ally) to answer questions quickly with multilingual human counsellors to manage complex cases. For users that need it, we refer to vetted local providers for on-the-ground support.

HowToUseAbortionPill.org – Training Providers

How To Use supports the nurses, pharmacists, and community providers who are often the first point of contact for abortion care. Through simple and accurate online courses How To Use builds the confidence and capacity of providers everywhere to support women through their abortions.

Findmymethod.org – Expanding Contraception Access

Find My Method empowers users to explore, compare, and access modern contraceptive options in a sexy, inclusive way. It combats misinformation and stigma by providing sex-positive information and answering sticky questions naturally and quickly via our AI-driven chatbot (Myka).

We are looking for a Portuguese/English-speaking counselor for our safe2choose.org platform.

Overall Role Responsibilities:

• Counseling: assisting users via live chat, e-mail by providing information about safe abortion. Counselor is expected to deliver a friendly, professional, supportive, and non-judgmental comprehensive sexual and reproductive health service, which should guide our users through a safe abortion with pills, aspiration abortion, or surgical abortion;
• Research and understand existing resources in LATAM women currently rely on for reproductive health information and abortion services. Help us identify areas of greatest need;
• Refer users to reliable on-the-ground providers or local support networks, when possible. Counselors would also be required to support the referral coordinator with developing our network of trusted partners;
• Other duties as assigned;

Role Requirements & Minimum Qualifications:

• The vacancy is directed at women (trans included) and non-binary people.
• Immediate availability to work 40 hours a week (full-time).
• Availability to work during weekends.
• Native Portuguese speaker.
• Advanced English proficiency with strong reading and writing skills. Spanish proficiency is a plus.
• Strong written communication skills with excellent grammar and spelling (multilingual preferred)
• Ability to provide empathetic, non-judgmental, and person-centered counseling
• Ability to work independently/remotely while also collaborating effectively within a global team
• Must have access to a computer and stable internet connection.
• High level of digital literacy and comfort using online communication tools
• Experience in sexual and reproductive health.
• Alignment with our intersectional feminist approach, reproductive justice values, and work ethics.
• Ability to analyze a complex situation from different cultures and curate customized support.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with integrity and care
• ​​High level of personal organization and proactivity.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience in counseling, knowledge of abortion or SRH services
• Experience working in multicultural and diverse environments
• Experience working remotely
• Proactive in identifying challenges and offering solutions in a remote setting
