About the Center for Empowered Politics (CEP) and CEP Education Fund
The Center for Empowered Politics and the sister organization the Center for Empowered Politics Education Fund builds movement ecosystem(s) of people of color-led grassroots organizations and community-based electoral organizations to deepen our experiments and sustain the long-term participation and leadership of working-class communities of color. CEP is a registered 501(c)4 organization and CEP Education Fund is a registered 501(c)3 organization.
Our aim is to grow the power of our communities toward greater resilience and governing power through strategic partnerships and movement infrastructure. Our approach is practitioner-led, grounded in our experience as organizers, the needs of our communities, and the political imperative to scale up our power and impact.
Position Overview
The Development Manager reports directly to the Senior Director of Development. This position manages Center for Empowered Politics and Center for Empowered Politics Education Fund (CEP/EF)’s grantmaking and regranting processes across the organization. The Development Manager plays a critical role at the intersection of relationship management, project execution, data oversight, and operational coordination. The ideal candidate excels at partnering with cross-functional teams to guide grantee partners through complex processes with clarity, responsiveness, and strong follow-through, ensuring a seamless and high-quality experience throughout every stage of engagement.
Role and Responsibilities
Relationship Management and Regrants (50%)
- Serve as the primary point of contact for CEP/EF grantee network partners throughout the grant lifecycle, providing timely communication, guidance, and support.
- Guide grantee network partners through intake, gathering/reviewing requested documentation, and payment processes, ensuring clarity around requirements, timelines, and expectations.
- Respond to questions and troubleshoot challenges related to (re)grant administration, documentation, and compliance.
- Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with grantee network partners through consistent communication, responsiveness, and follow-through.
- Coordinate with Resilient Strategies (RSN) and internal teams to resolve issues, streamline processes, and ensure grantee network partner needs are addressed effectively.
- Gather feedback from grantee network partners and identify opportunities to improve systems, communications, and the overall regrants experience.
- Coordinate internally with the development team on regranting processes to ensure timelines, deliverables, compliance, and communications remain aligned and on track for funders.
- Prepare summaries, updates, and briefing materials for leadership and/or funders, and partners regarding regranting progress, timelines, and outcomes.
Project and Data Management (40%)
- Manage projects, timelines, deliverables, and workflow coordination across development program priorities.
- Coordinate scheduling and support preparation (e.g. agenda preparation, note-taking, calendaring) for funder meetings and key external partner engagements.
- Facilitate internal follow-up and accountability by documenting action items, relationship notes, tracking progress, and supporting implementation across teams.
- Partner cross-functionally with CEP/EF programs, RSN, and leadership to support aligned execution of fundraising and regranting priorities.
- Track donor and funder pipelines, cultivation activities, and institutional records to support development strategy and relationship stewardship.
- Assist in the production of fundraising reports/materials, revenue tracking updates, dashboards, budgets, and pipeline summaries for leadership and/or funders.
- Manage workflows and operations of strategic fundraising incubations, sponsorship tracking, and revenue generation projects as needed.
Org-Wide and Misc (10%)
- Participate in CEP/CEPEF staff and organization building, including team and relationship building spaces, strategy and workplan development, and alignment and learning across projects.
- Support and participate in staff meetings, retreats, convenings, and other organization-wide activities as needed.
- Assist with preparation for organizational capacity and staff presentations and materials.
Qualifications: As a prerequisite, the successful candidate must believe in the core values of CEP/EF and be driven by the mission and vision. The candidate should demonstrate a passion for breaking new ground to lead social change. Beyond that, we are seeking a candidate that has experience in a fast paced environment with an orientation to create impact for the team and projects we support.
- Experience guiding stakeholders through multi-step processes or pipelines, ensuring clear communication, timely follow-up, and a seamless experience from onboarding through completion.
- At least 2+ years of working in a development or fundraising capacity or equivalent.
- At least 2+ years of strong customer-service orientation with the ability to build trust, navigate competing needs, and maintain positive relationships across diverse partners and networks.
- At least 2+ years of strong relationship and project management experience in building with high-performing/high capacity teams.
- Ability to anticipate partner needs, proactively address challenges, and ensure a high level of responsiveness and professionalism.
- System and process thinking, able to improve operational efficiencies in cross-functional teams
- Ability to learn new platforms easily and manage multiple sources of data.
- Willingness to work collaboratively, but with the capacity to work independently.
Physical Demands
- Able to work on a computer, including sitting at a desk, for extended periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Manual dexterity to operate a keyboard and other equipment
- Able to see or read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids.
- Able to speak clearly and in audible tones on the phone and in person and be understood by others.
- Able to hear and understand speech at typical levels and on the telephone.
- Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Work Environment
- This is a remote role (preference for San Francisco Bay Area). Regardless of home location, employees should expect to attend in-person events in the Bay Area and other regions of the country approximately 6-10 times/year.
Compensation
This is a non-exempt position. The hourly rate for a full time employee working 40 hours/week is $38.46-$45.68/hr (equivalent to $80,000-95,000 annually) depending on experience.
