    Description

    Associate attorney sought for federal court litigation firm representing consumers primarily in Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and Fair Credit Reporting Act cases.

    The position will be open on June 1, 2026 applications will be considered on a rolling basis.

    Base salary of $65,000 to 100,000 depending on experience, PLUS BONUS of 6% of attorney’s fees obtained for cases opened and closed while at firm. 3 weeks paid vacation. 401(k).

    This can be either a licensed attorney (preferred) or law school graduate waiting on bar admission. However, I will consider a 3L if they can work at least part-time now and then full time shortly after they take the bar exam this summer. (We will not consider graduates who have previously failed bar admission or LLM candidates.)

    The position is in person, but with a possibility of eventual transition to hybrid depending on demonstrated ability.

    Excellent writing skills are essential. You will gain immediate, substantive litigation experience.

    We are a private firm pressing public interest federal litigation. We regularly co-counsel with various Legal Services organizations using our twenty five years of litigation experience to represent mostly working class, disabled, or elderly clients who have been abused by debt collectors or ignored by credit reporting agencies. We focus on public interest litigation establishing and developing nascent case law on cutting edge issues.

    Examples of cases we bring are against debt collection law firms that: repeatedly sue and attempt to evict families who do not owe rent; freeze bank accounts of consumers that contain exclusively social security, disability, or unemployment benefits, which are exempt from restraint, and refusing to release the funds when put on notice; refusing to vacate default judgments when provided overwhelming evidence the affidavit of service is false. We sue credit reporting agencies and creditors for refusing to remove false information on credit reports. We also sue banks under the Electronic Funds Transfer Act for failing to reasonably investigate fraudulent transactions or to return money fraudulently removed for a consumer’s bank account.

    You will learn how to litigate a federal suit from intake all the way through trial or settlement, and will be involved at each step along the way. You will meet with prospective clients, draft complaints, substantive motions, and discovery, perform legal research, and become involved with the firm’s entire caseload.

    This position will provide a major opportunity to learn how to do federal litigation. Unlike many litigation firms, you will from the beginning be involved in substantive work. I will expect you to learn the substantive law quickly but thoroughly, and will provide you training to do so.

    • 3 weeks paid vacation
    • 401(k);
    • Fully paid for attendance (travel, hotel, tuition) for annual Consumer Rights Litigation Conference by the National Consumer Law Center.
