Paul Winter Consort

About Us

  • Paul Winter is a soprano saxophone player, bandleader of the Paul Winter Consort, and figurehead behind Paul Winter’s World of Living Music. His musical odyssey has long embraced the traditions of the world’s cultures, as well as the wildlife voices of what he refers to as “the greater symphony of the Earth.” With his music, Paul Winter has found a means to connect people to a sense of place, promote relatedness to the larger community of life and assist groups that support local cultural and biological diversity through:
  • concerts and albums to build community, celebrate the sounds of the planet, and benefit environmental causes;
  • media outreach and raising public awareness about environmental and social justice issues and groups

From the early days of his college jazz sextet, which toured 23 countries of Latin America for the State Department and performed the first-ever jazz concert at the White House for the Kennedys in 1962, to his later ensemble, the Paul Winter Consort, his concert tours and recording expeditions have taken him to 52 countries, from New York’s Carnegie Hall to the Miho Museum in Japan, and to wilderness areas on six continents. He has recorded 45 albums, of which seven have been honored with Grammy® Awards. Since 1980, Paul and his Consort have been artists-in-residence at the world’s largest cathedral, New York’s Cathedral of St. John the Divine, where they have presented over 200 unique events, including their annual Winter Solstice and Summer Solstice Celebrations, and the Missa Gaia/Earth Mass. His music has served environmental campaigns and causes in a range of countries, including Russia, Brazil, Israel, Lebanon, Japan, and Spain.
