There are many ways to make a difference as a hospice volunteer. In addition to direct patient care (time spent with a patient or family, chatting, playing games, light housekeeping, running errands), there are many administrative and non direct patient care ways a volunteer and still make a big impact. Some of these include: administrative/office duties, helping with veteran's honoring ceremonies, delivering flowers to patients, handwriting notes of encouragement, sending out the monthly patient education packets, helping with bereavement calls and mailings, etc. We also do a lot of volunteer retention, making sure you are filled up and encouraged so you can fill up and encourage our patients and families.
