Oakland Amalgamated, LLC - oaam studio

Oakland Amalgamated LLC, dba oaam studio, provides full-service video production services, as well as producing videos and series in-house that promote social justice and civil rights, and education.

Our core values include environmental justice and reducing waste, respecting privacy on the internet and at work, part blind and fair hiring practices (neutral towards level of education when possible and blind skill assessment tests), working with small and/or local vendors and service providers. This includes not participating in the "gig economy," using and promoting open-source hardware and software, no tracking on our website or in our emails, and no drug testing.

We take equality in hiring and employment very seriously, with a zero-tolerance harassment policy, including harassment by clients or their independent contractors. We do not have policies in place that require certain hairstyles or "gender appropriate" attire. We are entirely aware of how unequal access to education, and the quality of education, is in every state, and do not hold that against applicants. Instead of doing "diversity trainings," which have been proven to often have the opposite of the intended effect, we do what has been shown to work - fair hiring practices, fair treatment, and people from disparate groups working together.

Our commitment to reducing waste and our carbon footprint is built in to the core of the business. The main office is a five minute walk from the train, making it accessible without a car from almost anywhere. We own and use only LED lighting for our productions, and whenever possible buy used or refurbished.

For our full-service production packages, we provide discounts to local businesses, corporations with a social justice focus, collectives, and non-profits.

Our two main projects at the moment involve fighting disinformation and radicalization on YouTube, and making sure vulnerable populations have equal access to healthcare and quality of care in locations across the country where the situation is most dangerous.
