Sunshine Learning Center

Sunshine Learning Center is a network of schools that serve students from low-income families throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn and The Bronx with the goal of providing quality care and education to those students and families within our community. Our student population is extremely diverse. We provide opportunities throughout the school year for parents to come into the school/classrooms to share their culture and family traditions. We teach our students about the various cultures within the school and classroom communities. We discuss family background as well as the different types of families.

In an effort to give back to our community, we conduct food, clothing, jacket, and blanket drives throughout the school year. We host a "Sunshine for Sunshine" store each year in which families and staff members donate clothing etc to our school "store". After organizing all items any family who is in need or interested can pick out any items they need for their children/home at no cost.  We also write letters to military service members throughout the year, especially around the holidays.  

As we support our diverse staff, our Equity and Inclusion group with several sub-groups provides opportunity for conversation, personal development, curriculum development and support. These groups are "Race Talks", "Book Club", and "Curriculum". Race talks provides staff members with an opportunity to engage in meaningful and productive conversations covering a wide variety of race related topics. In our Book Club we conduct surveys to choose books staff members are interested in exploring and discussing. During our curriculum meetings we discuss ways to ensure our monthly curriculum is inclusive. We also ensure all our classrooms have books and materials that are representative of the students enrolled. Additionally, we dedicate the month of June to a school wide community outreach project.  Our staff members also have the option to take advantage of Therapy /Counseling at no cost.

We are a company that prides itself of adapting and evolving. We are always looking for new ways to get involved in our community as well as ways to support our students, families, and staff members. While we are a for-profit company, we use our position as an Educational institution to ensure the students within our community are provided with quality care and education while learning acceptance and inclusion. We also believe in teaching our students to give back to their community and helping those in need.
