Community Group
Community Partnership Organizer
Details
Description
The Opportunity
This is not a typical internship. The Community Partnership Organizer will be a central voice in how TechStep Foundation shows up in the communities we serve. You will build real relationships with nonprofit leaders, drive outreach that fills our clinic’s partner pipeline, and help shape how an emerging organization earns trust at scale. You will work directly alongside TechStep’s leadership team — people who are invested in your growth, your voice, and your future — and you will leave with a portfolio of work that reflects genuine impact, not busywork.
If you are someone who leads with empathy, moves with intention, and wants to grow alongside a leadership team that will push and support you in equal measure, this role was built for you.
Key Responsibilities
Partner Outreach and Relationship Management
- Research and identify nonprofits, schools, faith-based organizations, and community groups in Maryland and the DC metro area that align with TechStep’s target partner profile
- Conduct cold and warm outreach via email, phone, and virtual meetings to introduce TechStep’s clinic and services
- Build and maintain authentic, trust-based relationships with organizational leadership and primary points of contact
- Track all outreach activity, follow-ups, and partner status in TechStep’s intake and outreach tracker
Intake and Onboarding Support
- Guide prospective partners through TechStep’s intake process from first contact through scoping call scheduling
- Help partners understand the clinic’s deliverables, timeline, and their commitment requirements
- Coordinate with the TechStep Clinic team to hand off confirmed partners and ensure a smooth onboarding experience
- Maintain accurate records on partner organization profiles, needs, and service status
Community Mapping and Market Research
- Conduct structured research to identify and score organizations based on TechStep’s partner criteria: data sensitivity, resource constraints, sector, and community impact
- Leverage AI tools, public databases, and nonprofit directories to build and prioritize a prospect pipeline
- Contribute to TechStep’s community mapping initiative to inform strategic outreach decisions
Awareness and Representation
- Represent TechStep at virtual community events, nonprofit convenings, and networking opportunities as appropriate
- Support the development of partner-facing materials and outreach messaging
- Provide field feedback to leadership on what organizations need, what barriers exist, and what is resonating in the community
Qualifications
Required
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed an undergraduate or graduate program; fields such as Public Health, Social Work, Communications, Information Systems, Nonprofit Management, Education, or related disciplines are especially relevant
- Strong interpersonal communication skills with comfort initiating conversations with organizational leaders
- Organized, self-directed, and able to manage multiple outreach threads simultaneously
- Genuine commitment to equity, community service, and digital inclusion
- Proficiency with standard productivity tools such as Google Workspace or Microsoft Office
Preferred
- Prior experience in community organizing, outreach, volunteer coordination, or nonprofit work
- Familiarity with cybersecurity concepts or interest in learning; no technical background required
- Experience with outreach trackers, CRM tools, or spreadsheet-based workflow management
- Knowledge of the Maryland and DC nonprofit ecosystem
- Bilingual or multilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply
What You’ll Gain
- Direct mentorship from TechStep’s leadership team — practitioners with deep backgrounds in cybersecurity, higher education, government, and nonprofit strategy who are genuinely invested in your development
- A substantive portfolio of outreach work, partner profiles, and documented community impact that speaks for itself
- Eligibility for academic credit through your institution
- A front-row seat to how a mission-driven organization grows — from strategy to execution — and a leadership team that will challenge and champion you every step of the way
