    Description

    Project Summary

The “People Helping People” strategic communications campaign will help build support for US global development assistance by communicating its value by resonating with high-level American and human values that align with this work. The pilot social media campaign will target persuadable, or centrist, audiences with narratives that touch hearts and inspire. It will utilize data-driven messages which have been tested in focus groups in “purple” states. The campaign will take a strategic approach attuned to domestic politics. Once the pilot’s messaging and campaign approach are proven effective, it can be scaled to help create a critical mass of public support for the re-establishment of US-sponsored international development assistance, with further campaigns focused on key states for the passage of funding and related legislation. In addition, the strategy developed for the campaign could be replicated to reduce polarization and foster mutual understanding among Americans on other thematic bases.

    Project Associate responsibilities:

      • Assist with content research, communications, administration, and overall project implementation
      • Lead in review of partner content and selection for consideration for social media campaign
      • Assist with content creation (support creative/design specialist as needed)
      • Assist with campaign outgoing and incoming communications/responses (emails, posts, monitoring social media accounts, etc.)
      • Assist in focus group implementation; possibly record focus groups (as possible)
      • Assist with funding prospect research

Estimated timeline: Months 1-6 (approximately 10 hrs/week, depending on project workflow)

    Project Associate Desired Qualifications:

      • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline
      • Familiarity and comfort with main social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube)
      • Strong communications and research skills; ability to analyze and synthesize a diversity of data and present coherent “top line” conclusions
      • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
      • Experience in communications, journalism, international affairs/development, or related field
      • Strong sense of teamwork and positivity
      • Passion for democracy, civic engagement, and/or depolarization initiatives
      • Ability to commit to volunteer role through timeline of engagement

Compensation: $2,200 (lump sum at end of project)

Volunteer Nature: This pilot project was developed to foster increased support of US global development assistance and help reweave the fabric of our society. As a citizen-led initiative, it will rely upon the good will and effort of specialists who are motivated by similar values in a cooperative effort. All volunteer or below-market-rate support will be greatly respected and appreciated, with post-project references provided. The project will be managed professionally and in a timely manner in respect for volunteer time. If the pilot is successful and funding for expansion is received, more substantial positions may be available upon mutual agreement of the parties. The project will provide relevant skill building and experience to enhance a volunteer’s resume and professional references.
