Project Summary
The “People Helping People” strategic communications campaign will help build support for US global development assistance by communicating its value by resonating with high-level American and human values that align with this work. The pilot social media campaign will target persuadable, or centrist, audiences with narratives that touch hearts and inspire. It will utilize data-driven messages which have been tested in focus groups in “purple” states. The campaign will take a strategic approach attuned to domestic politics. Once the pilot’s messaging and campaign approach are proven effective, it can be scaled to help create a critical mass of public support for the re-establishment of US-sponsored international development assistance, with further campaigns focused on key states for the passage of funding and related legislation. In addition, the strategy developed for the campaign could be replicated to reduce polarization and foster mutual understanding among Americans on other thematic bases.
