    Description

    Project Summary

The “People Helping People” strategic communications campaign will help build support for US global development assistance by communicating its value by resonating with high-level American and human values that align with this work. The pilot social media campaign will target persuadable, or centrist, audiences with narratives that touch hearts and inspire. It will utilize data-driven messages which have been tested in focus groups in “purple” states. The campaign will take a strategic approach attuned to domestic politics. Once the pilot’s messaging and campaign approach are proven effective, it can be scaled to help create a critical mass of public support for the re-establishment of US-sponsored international development assistance, with further campaigns focused on key states for the passage of funding and related legislation. In addition, the strategy developed for the campaign could be replicated to reduce polarization and foster mutual understanding among Americans on other thematic bases.

    Social Media Specialist responsibilities:

    • Advise on and contribute to social media campaign strategy
    • Estimate cost of paid campaign
    • Set up social media accounts (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube) in collaboration with Project Designer/Creative Specialist and maintain these assets
    • Implement population targeting parameters on the basis of polling/public opinion data
    • Execute campaign over 4-8 weeks
    • Monitor results of campaign throughout via Meta, Google Analytics, or other data analysis tool, recommending adjustments as needed
    • Draft monitoring and evaluation reports (quantitative and qualitative indicators, dashboard, long form narrative with charts, and slide deck)
    • Investigate use of AI to increase campaign reach
    • Advise on subsequent email campaign to inform, mobilize, and engage supporters to action
    • If time permits, monitor related social trends, breaking news, and online conversations

Estimated timeline: Primarily months 5, 6 (approximately 10-20 hrs/week) of a 6-month project, plus attend key monthly strategic meetings

    Qualifications:

    • Ability to design and run targeted campaigns on at least three platforms (e.g. Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook)
    • 3 years of experience producing digital content for social media campaigns
    • Experience using polling data, social listening, and/or other datasets to inform campaign strategies
    • Ability to cull data and utilize social media analytical tools to monitor progress and results
    • Additional social media, data visualization, newsletter skills a plus
    • Strong writing, organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Passion for democracy, civic engagement, and/or depolarization initiatives
    • Ability to commit to role through timeline of engagement

    Compensation: $2,200 OBO
