    Senior Manager of Communications & Press – Role Overview

    A high profile non-profit in the human rights space is seeking a Senior Manager, Communications & Press to help shape and amplify the organization. This role is ideal for a skilled storyteller with a strong journalism background who understands how to translate complex issues, and engage media with clarity and credibility.

    The Senior Manager will report to the Creative Director and collaborate on media relations, develop press materials, and contribute to broader communications strategy in support of the organization’s mission and priorities.

    Key Responsibilities

    Media Relations & Press Strategy

    • Coordinate and manage press inquiries
    • Draft press releases, media advisories, and statements
    • Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, and producers

    Story Development & Editorial

    • Identify newsworthy angles across programs, campaigns, and initiatives
    • Translate complex policy or impact areas into accessible story driven narratives
    • Write and edit editorially accurate, high-quality communications materials
    • Support development of op-eds, talking points, and executive messaging

    Communications Execution

    • Support integrated communications campaigns
    • Collaborate with digital and social teams to align messaging
    • Ensure consistency of tone, voice, and factual accuracy
    • Manage press lists, calendars, and tracking tools

    Issues & Reputation Management

    • Assist with rapid response and sensitive communications
    • Monitor media coverage and emerging narratives
    • Provide recommendations on messaging and framing

    Qualifications

    • 10+ years of experience in journalism, media, communications, or public relations
    • Strong journalistic instincts and editorial judgment
    • Exceptional writing, editing, and interviewing skills
    • Demonstrated success pitching and placing stories
    • Ability to distill complex topics into compelling narratives
    • Experience working under deadline pressure
    • Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills
    • Established media relationships
    • Familiarity with digital and social media storytelling
