Campaign Canvasser - Oregon Labor 2026 Field Program

If so, we need YOU on our paid field team for the 2026 general election, mobilizing voters in critical races across Oregon!

The Oregon Labor Federation, AFL-CIO represents over 300,000 working Oregonians. Our mission is to improve the lives of our members and all workers and raise the standard of living for all Oregonians through collective bargaining, advocacy, political education, and outreach. Joining our campaign team is a proven way to build the skills, experience, and connections to launch a career in political organizing, the labor movement, or grassroots mobilization. Many of our past canvassers have gone on to careers in Oregon politics and organizing.

This program is a partnership between the Oregon Labor Federation and Base Builder, a movement-owned canvassing organization that provides professional field staffing and management for labor and progressive campaigns. Canvassers are hired and employed by Base Builder and work side by side with Oregon Labor's team every day - combining the Federation's deep roots in Oregon's labor movement with dedicated professional support, training, and coaching for every member of the crew.

This is a full-time temporary position. Canvassing begins August 24th, and runs through November 3rd (Election Day!).

Compensation: $24.00 per hour, with opportunities for advancement - Field Managers earn $26.00 per hour, and we promote from within. Benefits include paid sick time and healthcare access.

Schedule: Five days per week including evenings and weekends, with possible additional shift opportunities as the program grows. Shift times each day will be 1:30-9pm.

Our paid canvass program is known for its investment in people: intensive training, ongoing coaching, guest speakers from across Oregon's labor movement, and practice sessions to help you master the conversation and feel confident at the doors. We develop organizers, not just canvassers.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Passion for economic, racial, and gender justice
• Outgoing, friendly demeanor and a team-player attitude
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends
• Strong work ethic and reliability
• Comfortable walking outside for approximately 5 hours a day
• Based in or near Portland, OR

Preferred Skills:

• Political campaign and/or canvass experience
• Experience with MiniVAN
• Conversational proficiency in languages other than English
• Licensed and insured driver
• Familiarity with the electoral process
