    Description

    Whole Whale seeks a Senior Advertising Manager to lead digital advertising for a portfolio of social impact clients and help grow our advertising service offering. This role will report directly to the Senior Director, Campaigns & Creative and is responsible for overseeing and executing paid media strategies that maximize impact for our nonprofit clients. This role will help build our advertising team capabilities to ensure seamless, data-driven advertising strategy across multiple digital platforms. The Senior Advertising Manager sets the standard for advertising excellence across the team, drives long-term strategy, and serves as a key cross-functional partner across services. The ideal candidate has direct experience managing digital ads and advertisers, strong data storytelling instincts, and a deep commitment to social impact work.

    • This is a full-time staff position offered at the Senior Manager level. As part of our DEIB Commitment, Whole Whale has transparent salary bands by level to ensure fair compensation across our team. The salary range for this role at the Senior Manager level is $70,000 - $81,000. Our total compensation package also includes competitive benefits such as 401k company match, employee profit-share, student loan reimbursement, unlimited PTO, and more.

    Responsibilities

    Digital Advertising Management + Strategy

    • Develop, implement, and optimize paid media campaigns as the Ads Lead for 4+ nonprofit clients across digital platforms, including paid social, search, display, and programmatic advertising
    • Develop and implement long-term advertising strategies aligned with agency goals, conducting audience research and recommending platforms, messaging, and targeting strategies to allocate client media budgets for optimal impact
    • Build, monitor, and analyze ad performance on platforms like Meta, Google, LinkedIn, etc. with strong attention to detail to ensure KPIs are met or exceeded
    • Oversee a portfolio of nonprofit Google Ad Grant accounts to support client advertising goals and strategies through Google search; set the standard for Ad Grant and paid search best practices
    • Provide strategic recommendations and actionable insights to clients based on campaign data, maintaining organized and accurate documentation and communication of ad strategies, placements, and performance metrics
    • Craft compelling data-driven narratives tailored to diverse stakeholders, delivering holistic insights reports that integrate data from multiple sources and connect campaign metrics to strategic goals
    • Guide strategic copywriting and creative direction that drives results; provide feedback to clients and teams on opportunities to strengthen campaign concepts, messaging, and themes
    • Identify new campaign ideas and testing opportunities to drive more conversions and increase return; research ways to improve ad performance and efficiency and communicate those tactics across the team
    • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, building trust with senior stakeholders and guiding high-level strategy conversations that incorporate services and channels beyond advertising
    • Partner with account managers and service leads to assess challenges and propose holistic solutions; identify and share trends across clients and social impact cause areas to help the broader Whole Whale team see the big picture
    • Lead the team’s adoption and strategic use of AI-powered campaign types (Performance Max, AI Max, Meta Advantage+, etc.), evaluating when and how to deploy them across client portfolios; develop training materials and best practices for AI-driven campaigns and ensure the advertising team stays current as platforms evolve
    • Stay up-to-date on the latest trends and news in digital advertising, including new platform developments and transitions that impact our work (such as changes in features, targeting, privacy restrictions, etc.)
    • Continuously improve Whole Whale’s approach to advertising by deepening expertise, building relationships with platforms and vendors, updating Whole Whale advertising processes and strategy documents, and identifying tools and approaches that minimize error and increase efficiency

    Team Leadership

    • Set the standard for digital advertising best practices across platforms and channels, and update WW advertising processes and deliverables according to platform changes and learnings
    • Provide Ads team with ongoing strategic direction, training, and feedback to support their growth; potential to serve as the direct manager of ads employees
    • Work with Whole Whale’s leadership team to identify growth opportunities and knowledge gaps on the Ads team and recommend solutions
    • Contribute to the development of advertising and management training materials for employees and clients, leading both internally and externally; continually train the advertising department on best practices and platform updates
    • Support WW internal operations & leadership processes, such as hiring new team members, pitching and staffing client projects, and building WW culture and expertise

    • Client account management: Serve as the main point of contact for nonprofit clients and manage project strategy and team in alignment with client needs
    • Business development: Support biz dev efforts, including communicating with potential clients, joining pitch calls, and drafting proposals for new work
    • Product leadership: Support our product team in managing WW products and/or pitching and developing new ones that support our nonprofit partners
    • Marketing & thought leadership: Create and promote nonprofit learning content (site resources, videos, social content, etc.) and find other creative ways of marketing our services and products

    Qualifications

    • 4+ years of professional experience in digital advertising or digital marketing roles with a high bar for rigor, quality, and integrity
    • Comprehensive understanding of digital advertising strategy & tactics, including for lead generation, fundraising, traffic, conversions, and brand awareness
    • Experience building and managing digital advertising campaigns on Meta, Google, and other digital platforms
    • Proven ability to craft compelling data-driven narratives that connect campaign metrics to strategic goals, tailored to diverse audiences including senior stakeholders
    • Demonstrated experience effectively managing project workflows independently
    • Demonstrated leadership and team collaboration skills, with direct experience managing junior employees and/or teams
    • Experience collaborating across service areas and functions, with a track record of building relationships that lead to better client outcomes
    • Champion the effective use of AI tools across the advertising team’s workflow, from copy development to data analysis; identify opportunities where AI can improve efficiency and output quality, and guide the team in adopting new tools and approaches responsibly
    • Comfortable moving seamlessly from big picture strategy to supporting on tactical implementation when needed
    • Creative problem-solver driven by a need to look to the data, iterate, think outside the box, and try new things to deliver even better results
    • Great attention to detail and organizational skills - able to successfully and independently manage multiple projects at once
