Purpose of event:

RFC will be co-hosting a webinar based event to discuss the carbon cost of menstrual hygiene products. This event will not only empower women’s health but also spread awareness about environmental protection.

Almost 20 billion tampons and pads are dumped into the North American landfill each year. These products are filled with plastic and cotton- meaning that it takes a single tampon/ pad over 500 to 800 years to fully break down. Hence, through this webinar we will dive deeper into the environmental costs of such pollution.

Also, as we all know, research on female reproductive systems is very limited. Which in turn limits the quality, cost and accessibility of many menstrual products. Yet, over the past few years, many initiatives have been dedicated to creating menstrual products that not only support women’s health but also increase sustainability efforts. In this webinar, we will highlight some of those products- ensuring that they meet the following criteria: 1) environmentally friendly 2) limits the usage of harmful chemicals. Taking care of ourselves doesn’t have to cost the health of our own planet.

RFC is a youth-led organization dedicated to reshaping how young people interact with nature and sustainability. We have reached over 44k people thus far, created 33 educational post, hosted 1 event, collaborated with 4 different organizations, and have 32 current members!
