    Description

MLK Day of Learning & Dialouge (hybrid)

    1) Changing the way we think & act on the Climate Crisis Do you feel overwhelmed by the news about climate change? Do you talk to your friends or family about how you feel about climate change?

We’ll help you frame the discussion to start or continue conversations and provide ways to use your emotions as a motivator for action. Our goal is to give every participant actionable information that they can incorporate into their lives right now to help address climate change.

    2) Countering climate mis/disinformation in conversations and in the media

We will focus on how to respond to wrong climate statements 1) in conversations when we hear misinformation from our families and colleagues and 2) climate disinformation from the media. We will be discussing ideas from communications experts and practicing appropriate responses, If you have heard such zingers please come prepared to share them with us and we will discuss how to address them.

    3) Why Ukraine Still Matters. 10:30am-12pm on Zoom Why Ukraine Still Matters – On Zoom

Co-founders of the non-profit Common Man for Ukraine will share insights into Ukraine's ongoing humanitarian needs and conditions on the ground, along with programs they fund, including humanitarian aid deliveries to isolated, war-torn villages near the Eastern front as well as monthly trauma retreats for children and widows of soldiers who have died in this conflict. This presentation will be followed by Q&A. For more information about their work visit www.commonmanforukraine.org.

    4) BuildaBridge and the Art of Self-Care – In Person

This workshop will introduce trauma-informed art-making practices that are proactive and reactive tools to face life's adversity, allowing special insight into how BuildaBridge's work is valuable in marginalized communities, but also in your own life. BuildaBridge is an arts and education nonprofit that uses art-making as a tool for healing and hope-raising. Working with trauma-affected youth and communities across the metropolitan area, BuildaBridge teaching artists use arts-based metaphors to enrich participants' lives in and beyond workshops. The intrinsic and therapeutic value of the arts share a sacred space in BuildaBridge's pedagogy and create pathways to strengthen participants' resilience, self-efficacy and hope-infused futures. If you can hope, you can heal.
