    Communications Coordinator

    Reports to: Communications Director, Chief of Staff Hours: 37.5 hours/week Work Model: 4 days in office/at events 1 day remote

    About the Office

    The Office of Senator Art Haywood serves the 4th Senatorial District in Philadelphia and Montgomery County and is guided by a simple but powerful principle: dignity for all. Our communications work engages the community engagement, encourages civic participation, and promotes access to resources and knowledge.

    Position Overview

    The Communications Coordinator supports Senator Haywood’s communications by developing content, drafting press materials, conducting research, and executing daily communications projects in a fast-paced, high-output environment where no two days are the same. This role is ideal for someone who is self-motivated, proactive, and able to take initiative to ensure the Senator’s work and priorities are clearly and consistently communicated.

    The coordinator will play a key role in developing press releases, building digital content, organizing and supporting communications around events, and attending community events to capture and produce timely content. This position requires someone who can manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and actively seek opportunities to strengthen public messaging.

    Candidates with 1–3 years of communications experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Recent graduates with relevant internships, campus media, or communications experience are also encouraged to apply.

    Core Responsibilities

    Content Development & Press

    • Draft press releases, media advisories, newsletters, and official statements
    • Develop, schedule, and manage social media content across platforms
    • Proactively identify and create content that highlights the Senator’s work and priorities
    • Repurpose speeches, policy updates, and events into clear, accessible digital content
    • Maintain and support a content calendar to ensure consistent communications

    Events & Community Communications

    • Attend community events, press conferences, and public engagements to capture content and support communications
    • Organize and support communications planning for events, including promotion and follow-up
    • Coordinate communications logistics and materials for events
    • Build relationships with staff and partners to identify communications opportunities

    Research & Messaging Support

    • Conduct background research on policy issues, legislation, and community priorities
    • Monitor news coverage and compile media summaries
    • Assist in preparing talking points, briefs, and messaging documents
    • Ensure accuracy and consistency across communications

    Operations & General Support

    • Track deadlines and manage multiple communications projects
    • Maintain organized communications files, templates, and archives
    • Assist with website updates and digital content management
    • Provide administrative and project support as needed

    What We’re Looking For

    • Strong writing, editing, and attention to detail
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage shifting priorities
    • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to take ownership of projects
    • Experience drafting press releases, newsletters, or digital content
    • Comfort using social media and communications tools
    • Willingness to attend events, including occasional evenings or weekends
    • Strong organizational and time management skills
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment
    • Interest in public service, communications, and community engagement

    Pay: $18/hr full benefits
