- New York
donateNYC, a program of the NYC Department of Sanitation, helps residents, businesses, and nonprofits give goods, find goods, and do good with tools that make it easy to donate or find gently-used and surplus items. Donating and reusing goods instead of discarding them reduces waste, conserves energy and resources, saves money, and supports organizations working to improve the lives of New Yorkers.
Local organizations can use the donateNYC Exchange to give and receive large quantities of gently used and surplus materials. donateNYC assists individual residents via the donateNYC Directory, an online and mobile search tool that locates convenient places to give or find second-hand goods, and supports nonprofit reuse organizations through the donateNYC Partnership program, which offers members a variety of benefits including publicity, workshops, environmental impact analysis, and conferences.
donateNYC is an essential part of NYC’s 0X30 initiative, helping New Yorkers reach the goal of sending zero waste to landfills by 2030.
