City of Houston -Volunteer Initiative Program
The City of Houston Volunteer Initiatives Program (VIP) is in the Mayor’s Office and is responsible for engaging Houstonians in city government through volunteer service activities and community projects. Some of the programs overseen by the VIP include recruitment and referral of interested volunteers to various departments and community partners through our COH website, as well as HoustonSERVICE.org; the Mayor’s Youth Council, a group of 30+ selected high school students who emulate the Houston City Council; the College Internship Program; AmeriCorps VISTAS, as well as the Cities of Service initiatives: after school youth mentoring, veteran’s affairs, and hands-only CPR training.
INTERNSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES: The VIP intern will be responsible for developing and implementing the College Internship Program for the City of Houston’s paid and unpaid interns. He/she will also assist in other ongoing activities of the VIP that occur during the course of the year, including but not necessarily limited to: Community service projects, Mayor’s Youth Council recruitment, and evaluation and enhancement of the VIP from volunteers and department liaisons.
QUALIFICATIONS / SPECIAL SKILLS/ AREA OF STUDY: Must have the following qualifications:
- Full-time undergraduate college student who will be returning to college next semester
- Interest in public sector and community service
- Occasional use of automobile
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends

SALARY RANGE: Internships are unpaid unless otherwise noted. However, you may receive credit from your university.
