    The Berkeley Fire Department protects life, property and the environment through emergency response, prevention and community preparedness.

    About Us

    The Berkeley Fire Department was established in 1904 and is said to have been the first motorized fire department in the western United States. The Berkeley Fire Department serves a densely populated eleven square miles that encompass the City of Berkeley. The Berkeley Fire Department provides 24 hour response for emergencies. These emergencies can include fire suppression, medical emergencies, hazardous materials events, and other life threatening situations. The Department also supports these efforts with a fire prevention, disaster preparedness, and public education programs, as well as on-going training for all Department staff.
