About Us

The City University of New York (CUNY) is the largest urban University in the United States and critical to both the economy of New York City and the lives of the over 250,000 students who enroll each year in one of its 25 institutions. A 2017 study ranked six CUNY colleges among the top 10 nationwide in moving lower-income students into the middle class and beyond, and found that CUNY overall moved more individuals from the lowest to the top income quintile than the nation’s most selective colleges combined.

The CUNY Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs oversees a broad portfolio of programs that serving nearly 40,000 students each year. These programs focus on improving college readiness and increasing timely graduation rates for a broad swath of students, as well as particularly disadvantaged students such as foster-care youth, public assistance recipients, and ESL and adult learners. This is a dynamic and innovative part of the CUNY Office of Academic Affairs and several of its programs, including Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) and CUNY Start, are nationally recognized for their outstanding outcomes.
