About Us

The City of New Orleans uses geographic information system (GIS) technology as a key part of the City’s business operations. GIS, in the simplest of terms, is the integration of geographical features with data associated with these features. By using GIS, City employees are able to produce maps, charts, and graphs that allow city government to operate more effectively, efficiently, and equitably; GIS equips decision-makers with detailed information in order to make informed decisions.

The purpose of the Enterprise GIS Services team is develop and maintain a spatial information platform that is aligned with the Mayor’s high-level strategic objectives and is consistent with department priorities, and guides the continued evolution of the City's enterprise GIS environment.

The Enterprise GIS staff are organizationally located within the Applications Team in Information Technology & Innovation (ITI). ITI also hosts GIS professionals from other departments including Office of Performance & Accountability, the Orleans Parish Assessor, Emergency Operations Center, and Blight Strategy. The Enterprise GIS team supports City departments and provides tools for departments to make their data publicly available.
