About Us

The Office of the City Attorney provides legal counsel to the City of Oakland, its employees, officers, agencies, boards and commissions. In this capacity, the OCA drafts ordinances, resolutions, contracts and other legal documents, reviews the form and legality of city contracts and represents the city in litigation.

Our mission is to 1. Provide the highest quality legal services to the City of Oakland, 2. Promote open government and accountability in accordance with the letter and spirit of the law, and 3. Apply the law in an innovative and community-oriented manner to improve the quality of life in Oakland.
