  • About Us

The Sandia Mountain Natural History Center leads all 5th grade students in Albuquerque Public Schools (one of the largest school districts in the country), Rio Rancho Public Schools, and other schools, on an Ecology Field Program in the mountains. Students go for a hike, do hands-on science-based activities, and learn about the natural world around them.

The SMNHC also carries out scientific data collection, hosts and participates in public events, designs curriculum, teaches a Travelling Ecology Field Program statewide, teaches in classrooms, and more.
