Shape Up NYC

About Us

The mission of the NYC Parks' Recreation Division and Shape Up NYC is to enable all New Yorkers to lead physically active lives through sports, fitness, and outdoor adventure.

Shape Up NYC is a free citywide fitness program launched in June of 2004 through a partnership between the New York City Parks Department and the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOH) that targets neighborhoods with high rates of obesity and obesity-related disease.

Thanks to new partnerships with Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, Equinox, and NYC Service, Shape Up NYC has embarked on a major expansion since 2010, and now offers more than 180 free fitness classes every week at 35 locations across the five boroughs, including parks, recreation centers, housing and health facilities, schools and community centers.
