Miami-Dade County School Board

  • About Us

The School Board of Miami-Dade County is comprised of nine members elected by the people. They serve four-year terms and are elected from individual single member districts on a staggered basis. Members annually elect their chair and vice-chair. The board moved from seven members to nine members, a result of a court order intended to ensure fair representation amongst Miami-Dade County's ethnic groups.

The School Board of Miami-Dade County sets district policy and appoints a superintendent, who in turn selects administrators to head the system's administrative divisions and carry out the Board's policy.
