    Mission Statement:

    The Executive Office of Public Safety and Security (EOPSS) Paid Internship Program promotes an accessible and equitable pathway, seeking diverse undergraduate and graduate students interested in pursuing a rewarding career in public safety, criminal justice, and homeland security.

    Program Overview:

    The Executive Office of Public Safety and Security is offering an exciting professional work experience for students who are Massachusetts residents or enrolled in an institution of higher learning in Massachusetts. The paid internship program is an in-person internship within EOPSS agencies to provide students from diverse backgrounds a real-world experience in public service. The program is designed to provide students with professional exposure to a variety of public safety-related agencies across the Secretariat, including the Massachusetts State Police, the Massachusetts State Police Crime Lab, the Office of Grants and Research, the Massachusetts Parole Board, the Municipal Police Training Committee, the Sex Offender Registry Board, the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, the Department of Criminal Justice Information Services, the Department of Fire Services, State 911, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the Massachusetts National Guard, and the Massachusetts Department of Correction. This program is designed to provide interns with a wide array of public safety and criminal justice policy matters including responsibilities in areas such as:

    • Legal
    • Legislative
    • Boards and Commissions
    • Emergency Dispatch
    • Human Resources
    • Communications
    • IT Security (Data and Application Management)
    • Fiscal and Accounting
    • Grant Writing
    • Victim Services Units
    • Forensics
    • Reentry and Programming

    Applicant Requirements:

    • Must be enrolled in a college or university

    • Students enrolled in the internship program will be screened for a CORI background check

    The internship program will run from approximately June 3, 2024, through August 30, 2024. Interns will have the option to work full-time or part-time. Students will be compensated based on their educational program level. The application period will open on September 5, 2023. Applications and documents must be submitted by December 1, 2023. Interviews will be held virtually starting January 2024.
