The Barnacle Historic State Park

  • About Us

The Barnacle Historic State Park is located in Coconut Grove. Volunteer opportunities include conducting tours of our historical house (1891), exotic removal of invasive species of plants and trees, evening events like our “Moonlight Concerts”, and movie nights for dog owners called “Barkyard Theater”. We couldn’t preserve and maintain these important natural and cultural resources without the significant support of volunteers and the local community.

    House History:

Built-in 1891, it is the oldest house in its original location in Miami-Dade County. The Barnacle was the home of Ralph Middleton Munroe, one of Coconut Grove's founders and the founder and Commodore of the Biscayne Bay Yacht Club. An interesting fact about the house is that it is a two-story home. The top floor is the original first floor, built-in 1891, and the bottom is the second floor, built in 1908.
